Masasabi ko lang na kahit hindi deserving si cjc, you gotta give him points for knowing how to play the game.

Hi hired the beteranos to make his komiks (gwapo, ofw, etc.) and did a "national" caravan to publicize and validate his claim as the comics king. Nasaan yung mga dati niyang na-hire sa komiks niya and what do they think regarding sa scandal ngayon (you would think they would protest loudly in public too). See, he got them manipulated and blackmailed in a way.

I think yung strategy niya na pag lobby sa national artist award mas effective and realistic kaysa sa mga taong gustong i-promote si Coching - who's most deserving. All they have is a book and small time exhibitions, inclusion in internet galleries that "masa" people may not be aware of 'cuz they don't have internet acces. These guys should be more aggressive and refresh and re-educate the whole country about Coching's legacy and right to be a National Artist. Re-release his comics for cheap or something like that.

Caparas worked his lobby for at least 2 years it seems. Lots of people ignorant of art or artists have been conditioned via mass media p.r. to accept Caparas getting the award.

I won't be surprised if he uses this hate towards him by those he calls the "elite" as movie or komiks material. Caparas fans would eat that shit for sure!

Its been going on ever since. Binawi ba sa kanila in the end? HINDEEEE. Life went on.

Huwaaaaw! How Hypocrite.

HAHAHAHA.

Kung sino man ang naniniwala na pwede mag National Artist for Visual Arts ang Hindi naman Visual Artist kundi writer, wag kayong mag TANGA TANGAHAN. kasi kahit Grade 1 nakakaintindi sa ganito.

Natural aangal kami, kasi alam niyo bakit?

So devious a plot, 'no? But aren't you giving CJC so much credit for having manipulated a lot of people to bag, after two years, the ultimate glory and honor [meant for a truly deserving artist] as NA? Having said that, you may be surprised to know that there are a few more who are with you in your fartistic notion.

Anonymous (is that you, Juan Marquez?),

Please unload your drivel somewhere.

Caparas? Salamat.

1. Ano ba ang layon o objective ng karamihan sa mga bumabatikos sa ating post-modern National Artist for Visual Arts and Film? Bawiin ang kanyang titulo? Pilitin si Caparas na isoli ang award? Ano?

Wordsmith77, it's a simple "scripted" chain of events really.

Takes 3 years in between NA awards, correct?

Year one, he started his propaganda machine via komiks kongress/ karavan.

Year two, published 10 peso Caparas komiks. Making sure distribution covers nationwide.

Year three. Reap rewards via political appointment. He knows he doesn't have a chance with ncca so he just relied on gma for award.

Maybe he already had an agreement with gma noon pa para kapalit sa election support niya. All he had to do was these gimmicks "ibangon ang komiks" kuno to prep the population to his expected presidential award.

People shouldn't underestimate Caparas. He's a shobiz guy. He knows how to manipulate popular opinion and how to use the mass media to advance his agendas. GMA understands that, so giving him the award regardless of obvious flaws is beneficial for her political strategies in the long run. Caparas = masa = votes

Anonymous (who says s/he is not Juan Marquez),

The quotations below from your first comment are what I considered drivel. I need not explain why since this issue (CJC is a local pop icon) had been argued to death in Randy's previous blog entry.

(ninyo) ginawa 'yang cultural icon in the first place."

National Fartist,

Yes, you are right. NA titles are conferred every three years.

I'd say you're more than perceptive with regards to how you viewed this "scripted" road towards the NA goal. We have actually thought, previous to the announcement of the NA conferment, that the goal was an elective post.

See, I did not underestimate nor was I blind to the manipulation. We - meaning, me and my little clique of equally perceptive persons -- saw through, early on in the "script," that there was something fishy / bubbling underneath those frenetic activities of Komiks Congress and Komiks Caravan.

But, I prefer to be positive. Those were teaching moments. But of course, we have to ask: at what cost to the other people who failed to perceive the manipulation that went on then?

Wordsmith: "We have actually thought, previous to the announcement of the NA conferment, that the goal was an elective post."

Please explain. You mean, you never knew beforehand that the conferment of the National Artist awards ultimately rests on prerogative choice from the Office of the President? Dinaan nyo lamang sa akala na the conferment o national artist was a matter of vote or election by a council of "artists"?
